York High School Initiates Drive to Aid Homeless Veterans

Students at York High School are rallying the community to support homeless veterans in the Chicagoland area with a newly launched service project. The initiative aims to collect essential items for veterans in need, culminating in a donation to the Veterans Administration ahead of Veterans Day on November 11th.

York High School invites everyone in the broader Elmhurst community to contribute to this cause. The school has placed donation boxes in several locations throughout the campus, including the main office and athletic office. Boxes will also be placed at volleyball games throughout the week and the football playoff game on Friday night.

Community members are encouraged to donate a variety of basic necessities, with a focus on non-perishable food items and personal care products. Suggested donations include Kraft Mac & Cheese cups, ramen noodles, individual rice packets, canned proteins (such as tuna, chicken, salmon, and beef), canned vegetables, and canned fruits. Personal care items like bars of soap, body wash, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, and shaving cream are also needed. Gift cards to popular stores and fast-food restaurants are welcomed to provide flexible support for veterans.

The school looks forward to seeing a robust turnout and generous donations in the days leading up to Veterans Day.
