York High School Students Evacuated Amid Suspected Gas Leak

Earlier today, York High School students were swiftly evacuated from the third floor during eighth period due to a suspected gas leak. The incident, which occurred around 2:45 PM, prompted immediate action from school officials and the Elmhurst Fire Department.

According to an email sent by the school administration, a staff member detected a faint smell of gas in a hallway near a classroom. Prioritizing student safety, officials moved the third floor classes to the cafeteria as a precautionary measure.

First responders arrived on the scene to investigate the reported leak. Fortunately, they determined that the situation posed no danger to students or staff. A member of the York High School administration described the leak as minor, akin to a small gas leak typically found in a residential setting, requiring only an open window to remedy.

The school administration reassured parents and guardians that there was no immediate threat and that the York Maintenance Department would address the issue promptly. They emphasized that the evacuation was a precautionary step and thanked the community for their understanding.
